Gretchen Taylor Pousson
Virginia, 4th Circuit, U.S. Supreme Court
Right out of law school, I knew I wanted to work in criminal defense. For two years, I served as an Assistant Public Defender in Roanoke, VA, my 1st murder case being only six months after I passed the bar. Finding a passion for criminal law, I went on to be a prosecutor in Newport News for 5 years, gaining invaluable trial experience and of the prosecutorial mindset. I recognized the importance of educating the next generation, teaching as an Adjunct Professor of Law at my alma mater, William & Mary. In 2002, I served as an Assistant Federal Public Defender in the Eastern District of Virginia for 6. Reflecting on her time working for both sides of the government, I was recently quoted by Super Lawyers Magazine as recognizing that âsometimes justice means you let someone go or you give them a chance for redemption.â
