Philip Dana Althouse

Philip D. Althouse has been a practicing attorney since 1991 and is currently a Senior Attorney in the Economic Justice Group at the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland. He has successfully litigated cases against major financial institutions, mortgage companies, home improvement companies, automobile dealers, and other businesses on behalf of Northeast Ohio consumers in state and federal courts. He was author of the chapter on the Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act for the Ohio Consumer Law Manual published by Thomson Reuters from 2010 through 2016. The manual is widely used among attorneys in Ohio and frequently cited as secondary authority in court cases. Mr. Althouse is also an experienced human rights advocate and actively involved in collaborative efforts by U.S. and international human rights groups to strengthen the Inter-American human rights system. In connection with that work he has appeared before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, the autonomous human rights arm of the Organization of American States, and has provided trainings and presentations for attorneys on human rights law. He was recently appointed as Vice President of the Human Rights Committee of the Inter-American Bar Association/Federation of Lawyers. Mr. Althouse obtained an Associate Degree in Nursing from Milwaukee Area Technical College, a B.S.Ed. (Secondary Education) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Juris Doctor from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. He has been licensed in all three professions.
