She also previously served as an Associate Attorney at an employment law firm, handling matters involving labor unions, ERISA benefits, workplace discrimination, and unfair labor practices, in both federal and state courts as well as in arbitration. She also handled issues involving collections, real estate, and domestic relations matters, drafting briefs before state common pleas and domestic relations courts, federal courts, and the Ohio Supreme Court. In addition to her experience in civil law, she also has a background in criminal law. She worked as a law clerk for several criminal defense attorneys, focusing her work on individuals charged with capital offenses. She interviewed clients in Ohio jails and prisons, prepared motions to exclude evidence, appeals, and petitions for writs of habeas corpus. She also volunteered at the Innocence Project, reviewing case files for eligibility and preparing motions to obtain DNA testing of old evidence.
