I am dual certified as an Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation, and as a Specialist in Elder Law by the Ohio State Bar Association. I am one of twenty-three attorneys with this dual certification. I devote my practice to those issues uniquely affecting the elderly, the disabled and their families. Having been raised by a parent with early onset Parkinson’s Disease, and having witnessed a grandparent spend over sixteen years in a nursing facility suffering from Alzheimer’s, I gravitated early in my career towards the practice of elder and disability law. I established my Law Firm after leaving the Ohio Appellate Court with the goal of assisting those in need navigate the maze of planning options to obtain optimal care while maximizing available resources. My Firm is now comprised of five attorneys who collectively have over fifty years experience working exclusively in the fields of elder law and estate planning. Each attorney and staff member brings his or her own experience and talents to the practice. For instance, Attorney Claudia Brown holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Case Western Reserve and has served as case worker for the Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging. Kathy Cline, LSW, GCM, is a Certified Elder Care Coordinator for our Life Care Planning Services. All of the attorneys in the Firm are accredited by the VA to prepare, present and prosecute claims for veteran’s benefits. I was the contributing Editor to the Elder Law Handbook published by the Ohio State Bar Association, both the 4th and 5th editions, having authored the Chapter on Medicaid. I am a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Section of the Ohio State Bar Association, and sit on the Elder Law Committee for the Ohio State Bar Association, where I am the Chair for the State Hearings and Administrative Appeal Sub-Committee. I also am a former Board Member of the Ohio Chapter.
