Richard Feferman

Richard N. Feferman is the National Consumer Law Center’s 2013 recipient of the Vern Countryman Consumer Law Award. The annual award goes to a legal services or other public interest attorney whose special contributions to the practice of consumer law have strengthened and affirmed the rights of low-income Americans. Mr. Feferman is the founding partner of Feferman & Warren, the pre-eminent law firm in the southwest devoted to protecting consumers. Its three lawyers handle a wide variety of individual and class action consumer cases throughout New Mexico. Many of the firm’s cases are federal lawsuits against car dealers, credit reporting agencies, debt collectors, and lenders. Mr. Feferman is a 1971 graduate of the University of Michigan Law School. He spent the first 13 years of his legal career in federally funded Legal Services programs, and he was the first director of the New Mexico Legal Services Support Project. He edited and co-authored Consumer Law in New Mexico, published by the New Mexico State Bar Association. He has been practicing consumer law full time since 1993.
