Susan Waller Ramos is a graduate of Emory University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Spanish, and St. Mary’s University School of Law. She is licensed to practice law in North Carolina, Texas, and New Mexico (currently inactive), and began practicing immigration law in 2003. Ms. Ramos is fluent in Spanish and assists individuals, families, and employers in connection with assessing available U.S. immigration options. Ms. Ramos’ practice includes preparing and filing individual, family-based, and employment-based petitions, immigrant and nonimmigrant visa applications, and waivers of inadmissibility. She assists with complex consular processing issues, complicated citizenship and naturalization issues, petitions for humanitarian relief, and removal defense. She advises employers regarding worksite compliance and conducts internal audits and trainings. A former criminal defense attorney, Ms. Ramos also advises individuals and criminal defense attorneys regarding immigration consequences of criminal conduct. Ms. Ramos represents clients before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Department of Labor, and the Executive Office of Immigration Review. Ms. Ramos is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and served on AILA’s National U.S. Department of State Liaison Committee from 2015-2016, AILA’s National U.S. Customs and Border Protection Liaison Committee from 2012 – 2015, served as Vice Chair of AILA’s Carolinas Chapter from 2008-2009, and Program Co-Chair of AILA’s Texas Chapter Fall Conference in 2011. Ms. Ramos has received a Peer Review Rating of AV® Preeminent™ in Immigration and Naturalization Law by Martindale-Hubbell® and is frequently asked to speak at conferences and community events regarding immigration law.
