Marcellus Chase is an attorney at Randall Danskin in Spokane, Washington. A registered patent attorney, he advises clients in all aspects of intellectual property. Professor Chase helps clients develop and implement high-level and granular strategies to protect and enforce patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and other proprietary assets to achieve business objectives. He has filed and prosecuted patent applications relating to medical and dental devices, aerospace technologies, telecommunications, materials science, optics, energy production, optical inspection, detection, identification and measuring technologies, and various other areas of advanced research. Prior to entering private practice with a large, well-known international law firm, he worked in-house at a major research university for more than two and a half years. His experience includes the representation of numerous start-up companies, non-profit organizations, universities, as well as several well-established medium and large companies. As part of his practice, he negotiates and advises on research and development agreements, licensing contracts, M&A deals and related due diligence, software agreements, website terms of use, privacy policies, and franchise agreements and required disclosures. Professor Chase also teaches patent law and an introduction to intellectual property course at the University of Idaho College of Law, part-time. When he’s not teaching or practicing law, he enjoys cycling, baseball, and the great outdoors, and is scoutmaster of boy scout troop 464 in Spokane Valley, WA.
