PREPARATION AND PROFESSIONALISM. After nearly twenty-six years of service to the New Jersey Judiciary as a Superior Court Judge, I am privileged to become “of counsel” to the law firm of Carluccio, Leone, Dimon, Doyle & Sacks. During my tenure as a Superior Court Judge, sitting in Ocean County, I had the opportunity to serve in all divisions, which consist of the Family, Criminal and Civil Parts. Being “of counsel” will allow me to bring this experience to the law firm and its clients as we endeavor to achieve a fair and just result in all of our cases. As lawyers, we have the ethical responsibility to bring disputes and litigation to a prompt and fair resolution. There are alternatives to conventional litigation, which include mediation and arbitration. In mediation, a neutral third party facilitates the negotiations with the objective of achieving an amicable settlement for the parties without the need for litigation. In arbitration, a neutral third party actually hears evidence and decides the disputed issues much like a trial court. Arbitration can be binding on the parties or take the form of a recommendation depending upon the agreement of the parties. I welcome the opportunity to mediate or arbitrate matters at the law firm or at some other agreed upon location. These forms of alternative dispute resolution offer litigants an opportunity to avoid protracted and costly litigation. My services are available to the clients of CLDDS as well as to attorneys and parties in matters not being handled by the law firm. I gained valuable experience in mediation by completing a forty-hour workshop held by the “Program on Negotiation” at the Harvard Law School in 2008. I am also available to arbitrate and decide disputed matters.
